Mandibular Reconstruction

Large-surface mandibular reconstructions are among the great surgical challenges for surgeons and implant manufacturers alike. While the osteosynthesis plates must withstand the strong chewing forces of the human jaw, they should also have the smallest possible cross section for optimal patient compatibility and comfort. Accurate plate bending represents an additional challenge for any reconstruction system.

In KLS Martin’s Threadlock System, each hole of the osteosynthesis plate has a thread so the screws can take firm hold. The result is a highly stable, three-dimensional construction. Despite its low profile, the osteosynthesis plate provides excellent mechanical stability, as evidenced by comparison tests. Due to the concave form of the ribs, plate bending is much easier and bone contact minimized – which in turn means less bone loss (resorption) for the patient.

Significantly improved tools helping surgeons to adapt the plates to mandibular bone contours round off the system. For the first time, you now have tools at your fingertips that allow high-precision working, down to the millimeter. As the plates engage perfectly with the tools, slip is prevented.

Bending templates available for each type of plate facilitate careful operation planning. Screw hole covers prevent the soft tissue from growing into the holes.

With this combination of innovative implants and advanced processing tools, the system can be recommended as an all-round solution for reconstructive surgery, especially for trauma and tumor patients.
