The new ORs within the Leeds Teaching Hospitals create a dedicated environment for pediatric cardiac surgery and pediatric neurosurgery. The hybrid OR allows cardiac surgeons and cardiologists to perform surgery at the same time which means the skills of both specialists can be employed together and thus reduce treatment time for patients. The intra-operative MRI scanner allows scans to be done during neurological surgical procedures. Therefore the new theater complex will improve the care provided to young patients with complex congenital heart disease, and those undergoing neurosurgery.
The project was also accompanied by our local distributor Starkstrom, who in co-operation with the surgeons, clinical team, project managers and the construction company BAM, worked on a seamless integrated solution for the operating theater. The combination of our operating lights marLED® V16/V10 with HD camera capability, the Brainlab Buzz Navigation system and the GE-3-Tesla high field iMRI is a UK first.
‘We have enjoyed working with the team from Starkstrom. The installation of new theater lights, a control panel and two new pendants has been straightforward. The lights are very good quality with excellent illumination of the operative field and flexibility to adapt the beam to our needs. They also incorporate a great in-light camera that helps for teaching and training. The pendants are smooth and easy to operate. The control panel is clear and easy to navigate. The touch-screen layout is intuitive and works well. We have been impressed by the quality and professionalism of the products and staff and am very glad we have partnered with them on this project.’ - Mr. John Goodden MBBS(Lond) FRCS(Neuro.Surg), Consultant Neurosurgeon (Adult & Pediatric), Leeds General Infirmary, Clinical Lead for Pediatric Neurosciences, Leeds Children’s Hospital
