For the first time, 25 renowned hand surgeons from eleven countries met for an international exchange of experts with our engineers, planners, product managers and specialists discussing the use of patient-specific implants in hand and forearm surgery.

After a warm welcome given by Christian Leibinger and an overview on nowadays’ virtual 3D planning in hand surgery, several participants showed their clinical cases opening interactive discussions. It was concluded that especially in case of extra-articular and intra-articular radius as well as forearm reconstructions, new possibilities have opened and more predictable clinical outcomes for patient and surgeon are feasible thanks to the more precise planning procedure and its transfer into the OR by using case-specific screw hole and osteotomy guides and customized osteosynthesis implants.

All attendees agreed that even more indications for patient-specific applications in hand surgery will be the result of increasing case and user numbers and that the IPS Implants® Hand User Meeting should become an institutionalized periodical reunion in the future, also for reviewing the long-term clinical results.
