On air – online training for clinical staff

It has been apparent for some time now: digital training formats are the future. E-learning, webinars and podcasts are already widely used by end consumers and in other industries, but only sporadically in medicine - at least until the start of the corona pandemic. After 25 webinars with 14,172 registrations from 52 countries and an average satisfaction rate of 9.2 out of 10 points, we share our impressions of the webinar format with you and give a glimpse into the future.

The advantages of webinars are obvious: the time required by the participants is limited to the length of the webinar. Travel times, hotel accommodation or similar time consuming aspects of presence trainings are eliminated. In addition, you can join the webinar no matter where you are and regardless of the device - all you need is a good internet connection. Although you are sitting in front of the screen by yourself, interactive discussion rounds via text chat or polls can give you a certain community feeling. We wanted to take advantage of this potential and started offering individual product presentations on a webinar basis at the end of last year.

A few months later, we were right in the middle of it. Corona. Lockdown. No clinic visits. No personal contact. It soon became clear to us: we are going to expand our webinar strategy.

After many hours of strategy development, speaker acquisition and topic preparation, we launched our first series of webinars especially for cranio-maxillofacial surgeons on April 9th, focusing on our patient-specific implants - IPS® WEBucation. Later, other surgical disciplines such as hand surgery, bariatric surgery and gynecology were added.

In order to provide our distribution partners with further training during this time, we also offered them online training courses on our various product areas, such as surgical instruments, sterilization containers, solutions for our implants, surgical laser systems, disposable electrosurgery accessories, individual room solutions and operating lights.

The quality of the speakers, the relevance of the topics and a technically stable setup were particularly important to us for all webinars. In the future, we would like to further improve our webinars with additional formats on other platforms, recurring elements and a uniform look. Even though we have already completed our first "webinar season", we are still at the beginning of this exciting topic and look forward to further improve it together with you.
