We are pleased to announce that the “State-of-the-art in 3D Virtual Planning in Orthognathic Surgery” course in Bologna, Italy was a huge success with over 40 participants attending. The one day course coordinated between Prof. Gwen Swennen, Prof. Alberto Bianchi and S.O.R.G included a combination of lectures and hands-on activities utilising orthognathic virtual planning software.

Additionally, clinical articles regarding the “Bologna Experience” were discussed in detail to highlight the transfer and advantages of virtual orthognathic planning over conventional methods.

Important workflows such as the transfer of Natural Head Position (NHP), virtual diagnostics including 3D cephalometrics, creating virtual osteotomies and splint design were focal points during this interactive workshop. Real patient data was utilised for participants to clinically assess the case and to prepare a suitable surgical intervention.
