IPS® Thoracic Planning

IPS® Thoracic Planning

As the world leader in the field of osteosynthesis, we have combined our expertise in patient-specific solutions to set a new milestone in thoracic surgery.

The KLS Martin Individual Patient Solutions (IPS) Thoracic Planning System is a collection of software and associated additive manufacturing equipment intended to provide a variety of outputs to support thoracic (excluding spine) and reconstructive surgeries. The system uses electronic medical images of the patient's anatomy (CT data) with input from the physician to manipulate original patient images for planning and executing surgery. The system processes the medical images and produces a variety of patient-specific physical and/or digital output devices, which include anatomical models, guides, and case reports.

Efficient planning process

Efficient planning process

All IPS® data uploads occur via IPS® Gate, our proprietary cloud-based case management system. Following data validation, a planning session commences where the patient-specific cutting guides and thoracic devices are defined. Bone thickness may also be analyzed for confirmation that screws are being placed in adequate locations. *Note: there are no IPS thoracic implants available.

Optimized Marking and Cutting Guides

Drill and marking guides

Our guides are designed with predictive screw locations and carefully planned osteotomies for improved precision. Crafted from durable materials like Polyamide or Titanium, our guides provide support and accuracy during the procedure.

Anatomical Models

Optimal precision-fit

From the CT scan, anatomical models can be created to aid in visualization and plate bending.

Compatibility with standard implants and instruments

Compatibility with standard accessories and instruments

IPS Thoracic planning and guides are used in conjunction with our standard thoracic portfolio of implants and instrumentation for consistency and easy of use.

Collection of CT Data

1. IPS® Planning

Chest wall CT data is sent in and evaluated by a trained engineer at KLS Martin and prepared for surgical planning.

Insertion of the guides and performing the osteotomy

2. Planning

At the instruction of the treating physician, the osteotomy patterns, movements and potential off-the-shelf plating options are defined and simulated.

Fixation of the distractors

3. Guides

Guides are designed with predictive holes for an off-the-shelf thoracic plate and virtually projected onto the defect area.

Case Reports

4. Case Reports

A thoracic guide or guides optimized for the specific case are generated and mailed with a full case report indicating all planned osteotomies, predictive hole placement, and design. If desired, anatomical models are available for visualization and plate bending.
