Recos® Ulna Shortening and Radius Reconstruction System

Radial fractures are frequently followed by postoperative malalignment that can lead to loss of strength as well as pain. Moreover, the length ratio between the ulna and the radius might have been adversely affected by the intervention, although such dysbalance may also be a genetic condition.

Surgical radius reconstruction and ulna shortening can both be achieved by plate osteosynthesis.

With Recos®, we have succeeded in uniting these two corrective osteotomies in a single system. The plates are fixed using our proven smartDrive® screws. Only a handful of instruments are required for this application.

Radius reconstruction

The design of the Recos® radius reconstruction plates was developed to support the anatomical correction of the distal radius. The watershed line design of the plate allows for precise distal positioning, while pre-aligned screw positions support anatomical correction and fixation. Pre-assembled drill sleeves facilitate easy handling in the operating theatre.

For complex reconstructions, our custom-made implants of the IPS® family are available.

Ulna reduction

Our goal for the Recos® ulna shortening system was to offer a user-friendly and easy to use system. Except for a small number of additional special instruments needed for ulna shortening, all instruments of the Recos® radius reconstruction and Ixos® radius fracture system can be used. Like the radius reconstruction plates, the ulna shortening plates are also equipped with pre-assembled drill sleeves, that facilitate a stable fixation of the plate on the bone. The bridge plate features a recess in the area of the osteotomy line, which supports easy and safe cutting of the bone, including the periost.

The plates are treated with a type-II anodization, which enables high surface stability while maintaining a small plate geometry.

With our smartDrive® screws, standard and angle-stable screws are available. All plates can be fitted with both screw types - completely individually according to the fracture to be treated. In addition, all screws have an atraumatic screw tip and are equipped with a self-retaining function with the T-drive, that has proven itself for decades.

We have made it our objective to design instruments that are easy and efficient to handle. The colour coding according to the respective screw diameter enables a clear and unambiguous assignment of the instruments.

Our stainless steel storage systems in honeycomb design are optimized for reprocessing and allow high stability with low weight. For easy and efficient instrumentation, the instruments are arranged in the storage according to the operating procedure.

Area of application

Radius reconstruction

The RECOS® radius reconstruction plates are mainly used for the fixation of improperly healed radius fractures:

  • Type A2 A3 acc. to AO classification
  • Type A3.2 acc. to AO classification

Ulna Shortening System

The RECOS® ulna shortening plates are mainly used in case of constitutional and post-traumatic, clinically relevant ulna impaction syndrome.
