L1® Smart3D

The complex structures in the midface consist of strong bony abutments and thin bone lamellae which provide a stable, three dimensional frame. Nevertheless, fractures repeatedly occur at typical positions following the application of greater force.

Restoration of these structures in both functional and aesthetic terms are demanding tasks. With L1® Smart3D, we have succeeded in designing an anatomically pre-shaped plate line for midfacial and mandibular fractures that matches the complexity of the facial skeleton.

High 3D precision fit

The anatomically pre-shaped design of the L1® Smart3D plates is based on the average surfaces generated from more than 125 patient datasets of different genders and ethnicities. Our research has shown that one standard size per plate is sufficient – therefore our L1® Smart3D plates can be used in all adult patients regardless of age and gender.

For you, this results in a clearly structured portfolio, which is reduced to the essentials, and most importantly, to a reduction in bending effort.

The L1® Smart3D plates are equipped with innovative functional components that allow you to reduce fractures against the anatomical implant. Depending on the plate, guide brackets and hooks serve as positioning and reduction aids.

Holistic portfolio

The L1® Smart3D plates work as an optimal supplement to our standard implants. You can choose your pre-shaped plates from a holistic portfolio for efficient treatment of midfacial and mandibular fractures. Depending on the anatomical region, the L1® Smart3D plates come in two different plate profiles:

  • L1® Midface Smart3D: Profile 0.6 mm
  • L1® Mandible Smart3D: Profile 1.0 mm

Easy recording of implant data

Our L1® Smart3D plates have a detachable ID tag, that contains the article number, batch number, GTIN number, and a GS1 DataMatrix code. This enables reading or digital recording of all the relevant data, 100% batch traceability, and transparent as well as patient-related documentation.

L1® Smart3D | Intuitive storage

Intuitive storage

The L1® Smart3D system is the perfect add-on to our L1® Midface set. We created two special plate modules for the L1® Smart3D system – each can be stored and accommodated in the two implant trays of the standard L1® systems. The modules are validated for cleaning, sterilization, and suitable for machine reprocessing, thus meeting the requirements for optimal reprocessing.

The story behind L1® Smart3D

Generally, anatomically pre-shaped plates are far from new. In the fields of traumatology and orthopedics, pre-shaped plates are indispensable and have been the gold standard for the treatment of fractures since many years. However, in oral and maxillofacial surgery the situation looks completely different so far.

A few years ago, we met with our clinical partners to discuss the following question: Couldn’t it be beneficial to have anatomically pre-shaped plates for CMF surgery, too?!

Everyone involved was excited about the idea and ready to challenge the status quo. And even more than that – we set ourselves the mission of not only developing a new pre-shaped CMF plate line, but also of designing these new plates as functional as possible.

To achieve our mission, a passionate development process with an experienced clinical advisory group followed. The result? Eight completely new plates for midfacial and mandibular trauma demonstrating the best possible accuracy of fit – the birth of the L1® Smart3D.
