Ixos®

Radius fractures are among the most frequently encountered fractures in surgical practice. Based on an extensive body of clinical experience and utilizing new technical possibilities afforded by the ever-advancing technical progress, multidirectional locking radius plates are frequently used nowadays for treating such conditions.

Based on the principle of multidirectional locking plate osteosynthesis, our goal was to treat nearly all types of distal radius fractures with an easy-to-use and clearly structured system.

In fact, Ixos® comes as a comprehensive and user-friendly radius plating sytem including palmar, dorsal as well as lateral plates. All plates are implanted with state-of-the-art smartDrive® screws. No more than four instruments are required for secure osteosynthesis.

Ixos® radius plates are available in different designs to match proved treatment concepts. The plates are treated with a type-II anodization, which enables high surface stability while maintaining a small plate geometry.

The anatomically preformed plates allow for anatomical reduction and fixation. The rounded, atraumatic plate contour enables gentle embedding in the soft tissue and prevents soft tissue irritations. The rounded atraumatic plate contour enables the best possible embedding in the soft tissue and prevents soft tissue irritation.

With our smartDrive® screws, standard and angle-stable screws are available. All plates can be fitted with both screw types - completely individually according to the fracture to be treated. In addition, all screws have an atraumatic screw tip and are equipped with a self-retaining function with the T-drive, that has proven itself for decades.

We have made it our objective to design instruments that are easy and efficient to handle. The colour coding according to the respective screw diameter enables a clear and unambiguous assignment of the instruments.

Our stainless steel storage systems in honeycomb design are optimized for reprocessing and allow high stability with low weight. For easy and efficient instrumentation, the instruments are arranged in the storage according to the operating procedure.

Area of application

The Ixos® Radius Plate System is mainly used for the fixation of intra- and extra-articular acute fractures of the distal radius, in particular:

  • Type A2 Colles fractures
  • Type A3 fractures
  • Type B1 fractures
  • Type B2 Barton fractures
  • Type B3 Smith or reversed Barton fractures
  • Type C1 fractures
  • Type C2 fractures
  • Type C3 fractures
  • Osteotomies of the distal radius

A new chapter

2025 marks the beginning of a stepwise extension of the current Ixos® portfolio. Building on distal radius research over the past decades, our development team of international experts in hand surgery set out to create a new generation of anatomical distal radius plates.

To cover the wide range of patients that are encountered in clinical practice, the P4 and P4 Wave plates are now available in different widths, spanning from 19 mm to 27 mm.

We created the P4 Wave+ plate as a result of our experience in radius and forearm malunion treatment. It is designed to address distal radius fractures that extend into the epiphyseal and metaphyseal area. By fusing numerous different custom-made plate designs, the plate mirrors the 3D shape of the forearm with its bend and twist. The P4 Wave+ plates are available in lengths ranging from 95 mm to 182 mm.

The P6 and P6 Hook plates combine the best of both the P4 and the P4 Wave. Like the P4 Wave+, we designed the plates using IPS® data to create an advanced plate based on real patients’ anatomical variety.

Their wing-shaped 3D design addresses both the ulnar as well as the radial side of the bone. Extending further distally as any other plates in the portfolio, they can be used to treat even the most challenging cases.

The P6 Hook plates feature an anatomically pre-shaped hook on the ulnar side and can be equipped with 1.5 mm self-drilling screw to catch tricky volar rim fragment.
