Without these people and their passion, KLS Martin would not be what it is today: a fifth-generation family business.

Everything began with a passion – and for KLS Martin, it begins in the Leibinger family. A bold idea from 130 years ago gave birth to a company that has been continued for generations.

Karl Leibinger developed the business into a successful medical technology company thanks to his determination, inventive genius and bold entrepreneurship.

His son Christian Leibinger continued this inventive spirit and developed KLS Martin further with a view towards the future, making it more international, more digital, yet always with the family's values in mind: reliability, pioneering spirit, down-to-earth attitude, and the belief that success is achieved only with people.

Today, we look back on 130 years in business – and on a family with the courage to start it all.

Milestones in over 130 years of history

Our roots

The year 1896. Carl Benz produces the first gasoline-powered truck, which still resembles a horse-drawn carriage, and X-ray technology enters everyday clinical practice. These events set the stage for Ludwig Leibinger. Although he is a trained watchmaker, he decides to enter a trade he sees as more promising for the future—one that requires at least as much precision and attention to detail: the manufacture of surgical instruments. Thus, in 1896, he founded the company Karl Leibinger Medizintechnik, which still exists today.
